Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Hereford
Ellerton
A 2m novice handicap hurdle kicks off Hereford's card and the one to be on is Ellerton, who should find this much easier than when sixth behind Sir Gino at Cheltenham last time.
He was outclassed at 250-1 on that occasion, finishing 42 lengths behind the classy winner, but still recorded a career-best Racing Post Rating of 91 and had already shown promise when second and third in a couple of juvenile events at Fontwell in December.
Those Fontwell efforts came on soft and heavy ground but Ellerton's best form on the Flat in France was achieved on good going and he was rated 80 in that sphere. A mark of 99 should therefore be lenient over hurdles and Sam Twiston-Davies is a positive booking. He is 0-14 for trainer Syd Hosie, but five finished second and one third, so is due a winner for the yard.
