Being a clerk of the course can be a cold and lonely job. A good clerk must be clairvoyant, groundkeeper and PR, prediciting the weather, battling nematodes and fending off endless inquiries from journalists and trainers. Clerks work all hours and in all weathers, endlessly prowling the grassy wastelands of the back stretch. And what thanks do they get? None.
Luckily, on Friday we discovered they have one faithful ally in their quest to provide our racecourses with the finest grass the earth can yield.
